A NEW ERA IN WORKSPACE
Ruth Drum took a bold step into the new Millennium by launching Crossroads Business Center in 1999. It was a time of great expectations and exciting possibilities, and Ruth has played a definitive part in supporting the dreams and aspirations of some of North Carolina's most innovative businesses.
Timeless Customer Service
Launching Crossroads in Raleigh, NC wasn't an idea pulled out of the sky. Prior to setting up the business center, Ruth provided secretarial and word processing services for a huge range of clients, from major companies right through to time-pressed college students.
Along the way she launched a local support group, which brought other secretarial professionals together to collaborate, network and share knowledge. She began working for York Properties, which operated an Executive Suite in Cary, NC, and later relocated her secretarial business there in 1988. She stayed for 11 years, serving the needs of York's executive suite clients.
Little did Ruth know this was the beginning of her career in the serviced office business. Upon reaching a turning point in her career at the turn of the millennium, Ruth went on to launch Crossroads Business Center in 1999, and has never looked back.
INDEPENDENT ADVANTAGE
Like many cities, Raleigh has no shortage of serviced office business centers. Yet Ruth has several advantages over the competition. Primarily, she has a long history of customer service. She's quick off the mark, innovative and resourceful -- just what business center clients need in today's fast paced market. And Crossroads, as the name suggests, sits in a perfect location.
"I am here every day taking care of our clients," says Ruth. "Our clients are happy here -- they like the location and someone to look after the day-to-day operations of running a business. We are an extension of their business."
As an independent center, Ruth isn't restricted by corporate entities or long chains of command. "The buck stops here" she says, which makes Crossroads smart, agile and efficient -- a perfect blend that Ruth has perfected over the years.
TEAM SPIRIT
Among Ruth's many star qualities, it was hiring Lynn Pelkey in 1989 that remains one of her greatest accomplishments. "Lynn started as a temp through Kelly Services and has been with us since the beginning, and is still with me today. We work well together."
This harmonious working relationship, crafted over 26 years, has led to a successful independent business center that seamlessly accommodates the ever-changing needs of its clients. It's why some of their clients have remained happily at Crossroads for over a decade, and even those looking for a temporary office, years ago, have watched the years fly past without question.
The secret to their success? It's really quite simple. "Quality office space and efficient staff are essential to any successful business," says Ruth. "We have that covered."
